Welcome to the June 2018 edition of CKT
Closing this month (30th June) - Felines, Farts or Frightening Places Competition.
You can enter one of two categories or both – chapter or picture book.
We thought we’d give you some fun prompts to work with for our first writing competition for 2018 - Felines, Farts or Frightening Places. Who doesn’t love felines? Frightening places conjures up all sorts of creative ideas and farts well just say the word, and kids get the giggles. Now it’s time to tickle our judge’s funny bones or scare them; we’ll leave it up to you.
You can submit either the first chapter of up to 1000 words or a picture book of no more than 650 words. We have some fantastic prizes for our winners with Faber Academy again supporting us with our first prize.

Save the date for the next Creative Kids Tales Writers’ Festival - 6th April 2019
We have an AMAZING line up for next year’s festival, and we’d love to share who will be joining us, but we are going to keep it a secret just a little longer.
We promise to share more information with you sooner or later. Really we do 😀
Goodbye - This month we farewell Eileen Magee & Jacqueline de Rose-Ahern
Eileen Magee has been assisting us at CKT since 2015.
Since joining us, Eileen has predominately been captaining our online critique community ensuring our five groups run smoothly from week to week.
Eileen’s also waved her magic wand over various corners of CKT during the years, but sadly she’s decided the time is right to move on. Eileen will be dedicated more time to her writing; I applaud her for that. She will still be a part of the CKT family from the other side of the fence 😀
Jacqueline de Rose-Ahern also bids us farewell. Jacqueline has been bringing us enlightening introductions for our featured guests each month for the past year.
After successfully furthering her education Jacqueline will be taking on a new role at her day job. Also hot on the heels of the success of her first picture book release, her second is due out soon.
We’ve loved having Jacqueline as part of the CKT team.
We will miss her and wish her all the very best on her creative journey.
Welcome Susan Hili & Fiona Lloyd
Susan Hili will be taking over the running of the CKT online Critique Group. Susan has been a member of Creative Kids Tales since 2016. She’s been active in many CKT projects including our first publication and has been an integral member of our online community. Congratulations Susan on your role of CKT Critique Group Captain.
Fiona Lloyd only joined CKT earlier this year after attending our first writers’ festival. So inspired by our community Fiona has stepped into the position of CKT Assistant and will be assisting me with top-secret CKT business. I am super excited that Fiona will be helping me and bringing in her new ideas and some new blood to our initiatives. If you want to know more about Fiona she is our featured emerging author of the month. Skip to the front page and click on her interview.
Adult and Children’s workshop opportunities
To close off Book Week 2018, I’ll be running workshops for both children and adults at Sutherland Library on 25th August. Places are limited to 15 per session. Keep an eye out for booking information soon.
Expressions of Interest are now closed
We have over 30 contributors for the next CKT Story Collection. We’ll be mixing it up and spinning around our upcoming publication. Yes, that is a clue. Can’t wait to share more with you soon. Keep watching this space.
Do you want to take the next serious step with your writing?
If you want to learn the craft of writing for children why not check out our Author Personal Training - More than Mentorship.
Just because someone likes to run, doesn’t mean they can enter a marathon. To ensure they are capable of getting across the line, marathon entrants train long and hard. Competition in the writing industry is fierce. If you hope to get over that finish line, consider personal training with those who have the knowledge and experience to help you. Be warned that as we coach you to build the skills you need, we will hold no punches.
