Andrew Dittmer - Interview (May 2018)
Why do you want to be a published author?
I want my stories to put smiles on faces. This year I'm planning to Indie Publish a few of my stories and am working on some cool and crazy ideas with how to integrate stories with new technologies since that's my day job as an Android app developer. (If anyone wants to follow my crazy ideas, you can sign up to my mailing list at my website http://andrewdittmer.com or facebook author page https://www.facebook.com/andrew.dittmer.author/) I suppose my driving forces are that I want to generate money to put a dent in some of the world's injustices and eventually, I'd love to combine my love of writing and apps/technology and be a writing entrepreneur for my day job.
How long have you been writing?
I used to love writing stories when I was in school. Once I left school, I didn't write any more until a few years ago, I was sitting in front of the tv watching shows that I wasn't enjoying. I wanted a creative outlet. So I wrote a story and entered it into a short story comp and was shocked and excited to be shortlisted. Then I signed up for the Writing Picture Books course at the Australian Writers' Centre and joined some critique groups and been reading books about how to write. Now I write whenever I can.
How will you celebrate your first publication?
I haven't really thought about it yet, but I'll probably try to come up with a super fun book launch. I think that would be a fun celebration.
How would you describe your writing style?
I really don't know. I'd love to know how others would describe my writing style.
How has Creative Kids Tales assisted you on your journey to publication?
Having my profile on Creative Kids Tales helps me get my name and mission visible. The CKT critique group is very well organised and a great bunch. It's so helpful to connect with others and get feedback before I submit to publishers. It is rewarding and to give others feedback too.
