The Accident - Humpty Dumpty’s Fall
by Norah Colvin
Humpty Dumpty lived a long, long time ago in a land of dreams and make-believe.
Humpty had a huge smile and a kind heart, and everybody loved him.
Every day Humpty would go for a walk.
One morning when Humpty and his friend Pomble were out walking, they heard some unusual sounds coming from behind a wall.
“I wonder what that is,” said Humpty.
“Let’s find out,” said Pomble.
Humpty looked at the wall.
He couldn’t see through it.
He couldn’t see over it.
And there was no way
“It’s no use,” thought Humpty
Meanwhile Pomble found some rocks in the grass.
She piled them up against the wall.
“Look, Humpty,” she said. “We can climb up here.”
First Pomble helped Humpty climb up onto the wall.
Then she climbed up too.
Humpty and Pomble couldn’t believe their eyes.
They saw a large tent, and a huge truck. There were people in all sorts of costumes doing different tricks.
“It’s a circus!” said Pomble. “The circus is in town!”
They watched the band as it practised for the show.
Suddenly the trombone player saw them and gave a loud blast!
“Aaah!” screamed Humpty and Pomble as they toppled backwards off the wall.
Just then the King’s men came riding by. They heard the cries and saw what happened.
“Can we help?” they asked.
“I’m okay,” said Pomble, shaking her head. “But I think we need the ambulance for Humpty.”
The King’s men galloped off to get the ambulance.
Soon the ambulance arrived.
They rushed Humpty to the hospital.
The doctors looked at Humpty.
“It’s just a little crack,” they said. “We will have you fixed in no time.”
As soon as Humpty was well, he and Pomble went to the circus together.
