Pete Pelican Flies High (Part 3)
by Margaret Bennett-Hall
This human hit the red ball with a big wooden bat. He then ran up the path. At the other end he turned around and ran back again. This seemed so weird to Pete.
NAME THE GAME BEING PLAYED……
He then flew across the Atlantic Ocean. Pete saw big black storm clouds. He knew big storms often formed there. Lightning and thunder roared towards him. Then the rain bucketed down.
He flew down to a big cruise ship below. He found a safe spot in a life boat. The ship rolled in the big waves. But Pete felt safe in his hiding spot. When the storm passed he set off again.
IS THE ATLANTIC OCEAN OFTEN STORMY?......
He came to the Statue of Liberty in New York. It was there to welcome people from many countries to come and live in America. Pete noticed there were lots of humans waiting to catch a ferry out to the statue. When they arrived they climbed up inside it. When at the top they would wave to the humans still on the ground. Then they would come down again.
These humans sure did some strange things.
WHY IS THE STATUE OF LIBERTY IN NEW YORK?.....
Pete then flew across this large country to Los Angeles in California. So different to New York with lovely tall palm trees. The humans gathered near the beach. They rode around on bikes and skateboards. They wore shorts and T-shirts. California was more like his home on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Pete began to feel homesick. He decided to head for home.
WHY DID CALIFORNIA MAKE PETE FEEL HOME-SICK?......
As he flew over the huge Pacific Ocean he felt very tired. He had been flying such a long way. Then he spotted a big blue whale below. The whale let Pete ride on is back for a rest. They rode the waves together until Pete was strong enough to fly again. He called out a big thankyou to his whale friend as he took off on his way.
WHAT TYPE OF WHALE DID PETE RIDE ON?.....
He finally arrived in New Zealand. He saw the humans there gathered in a big rugby league ground. Some were dress in black standing in a line. They were shouting angrily at other humans standing in a line facing them. The humans in the stands were calling out and cheering.
It seemed really strange to Pete.
NAME THE GAME ABOUT TO BE PLAYED……
Pete knew from his GPS he didn’t have far to go home to Australia. He headed off across the Tasman Sea. He was very happy to arrive home to the beautiful sunshine on the Gold Coast in Queensland. All his feathered friends came out to welcome him home. They put on a big display flying around over the Broadwater.
HOW DID PETE KNOW WHERE TO GO?......
Pete spent the rest of his life floating around in the warm waters of the Gold Coast telling his friends all about his big adventure.
