I’ve heard about a paradise, with clear and sunny skies,
I’ve heard there lives a teacher there, who’s strong and kind and wise.
I’ve heard if you can find it, all your wishes will come true,
So I resolved to find this place – what else would I do?!
I travelled over land and sea, to see what I could see,
I became a bold adventurer; to be what I could be.
I searched the world for nigh a year, to hear what I could hear,
Steered and cheered through every season, as they did appear.
Summer took me to the beaches, to sea and sand and sun,
I searched those sandy stretches and I had a lot of fun.
I skipped and swam and lazed and bathed, I sat still and I ran;
I got a lovely suntan and I met a pelican!
“Come with me!” said the pelican, and waded deep into a cave,
It was cold and damp and very dark – I had to be quite brave!
But as I swallowed fear and followed near, I saw to my great pleasure,
Packed and stacked against the wall was a tall chest full of treasure!
Autumn led us to the forests, to trees and streams and dappled light,
We looked high and low and in and out, we searched through day and night.
We bounded, bounced, and frolicked, we danced and pranced both far and near,
I became as strong as anything, and I also met a deer!
“Play with me!” said the deer, and dashed and splashed into a stream,
Through pools of light and waterfalls as pretty as a dream.
Upon a ridge there was a bridge, but I missed it in the mist,
So I waded in the water, and there I found my bliss!
Winter brought us to the mountains, to gorgeous gorges and towering peaks,
We explored terrain of every kind, through many days and weeks.
We tramped and camped, rappelled and fell, we trekked and hiked and biked,
We saw canyons, jungle, rain, and snow, and what we saw we liked!
The wind grew and blew, cut through my clothes, and tickled at my throat,
I shuddered and I huddled down… then I saw a mountain goat!
“This way!” exclaimed the goat, and led us up a narrow path,
We reached the peak, and peeked around, and let out a joyful laugh.
Spring arrived and the land thrived in Spring’s sweet-smelling arms,
And we found ourselves exploring fields and gardens, meadows, and farms.
We saw grass and trees, and birds and bees, we searched both land and sky,
Flowers bloomed bright, and to our delight, we met a butterfly!
“Follow me!” said the butterfly, and flew through a labyrinth, so hazy,
The maze was quite amazing – it was so complex and crazy.
We walked and flapped, leapt and trip-trapped, fluttered by and floated past…
And as I gazed upon that maze I praised the way the days had passed.
