Stomp your feet at the Dinosaur Disco!
Everyone is dancing at the disco. But then . . .
The music stops.
The ground shakes.
Is the intruder looking for a dance . . . or his dinner?
Twist your hips, not your tongue! Dinosaur Disco includes a pronunciation guide and fun dino facts.
Q. Tell us about yourself.
I love travel and have lived in four countries-New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Scotland.
I have a background in Marine Biology but have done all sorts of jobs from working as a travel agent to teaching English to selling meat pies over the phone!
I love to swim and I practise Yoga every day.
Q. What is your book about?
My latest work is a rhyming picture book called ‘Dinosaur Disco’. It has been beautifully illustrated by Daron Parton and published by the wonderful team at Random House Australia.
As the title suggests it’s about disco dancing dinosaurs. The herbivores are having a fabulous time at the disco until an unexpected intruder shows up -but is he looking for a dance or dinner?!
There’s a pronunciation guide at the back (for those tricky dinosaur names!) as well as some fun facts about the dinosaurs featured.
Q. Who is your target audience for this book?
Dinosaur Disco is aimed at 3-8 year olds but can be enjoyed by children (and adults!) of all ages. Younger children will enjoy the bright humorous illustrations, the interesting language and the rhythm of the text. Older children and adults will enjoy the humour and dramatic tension. They will also pick up the cheeky references to popular culture!
Q. What aspects did you find challenging about this book?
Incorporating those long, tongue twisting dinosaur names while trying to keep the beat of the rhyme consistent!
Q. Why does your book offer the reader that differs from others covering similar subjects?
Dinosaur Disco combines a host of things that kids love-dinosaurs, dancing, humour, rhyme and dramatic tension!
Dinosaur Disco is lots of fun to read aloud. It gives kids the opportunity to roar and stamp their feet, to learn a few fun facts about dinosaurs not to mention some funky new dance moves!
Q. How did the idea for this book come about?
I was waiting in my car to pick my daughter up from school. My dinosaur mad son was playing with his dinosaurs in the back seat and I suddenly remembered the school disco was on that night. The two ideas merged….and suddenly I was thinking about disco dancing dinos!
