Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation (ACLF)
Google #OzLaureate and you will find a host of familiar names such as Jackie French, Morris Gleitzman and Leigh Hobbs to name a few. So what is the role of the laureate in the landscape of children's literature in Australia?
The Australian Children’s Laureate is a not-for-profit initiative developed by the Australian Children’s Laureate Foundation (ACLF)
Appointed on a biennial basis, the Laureate's role is to promote the importance of reading, creativity and story in the lives of young Australians, whilst acting as a national and international ambassador for Australian children’s literature.
Our current laureate for 2020/21 is children’s author Ursula Dubosarsky, author of over 60 books for children and young adults. She is passionate about her chosen theme of Read For Your Life which recognises that reading often decreases after primary school. Ursula aims to promote the development of reading as a lifelong habit during her two year term out and about in Australia.
