Jill Carter-Hansen
Welcome to Creative Kids Tales, Jill Carter-Hansen.
Jill was born in New Zealand and moved to Australian in 1987. Based in Sydney, Jill is an author/illustrator and filmmaker.
Since 1988 Jill has tutored and lectured in many universities, tertiary institutes and schools around the country. She has conducted numerous workshops and presentations for students both primary and secondary at the Art Gallery of NSW and the NSW State Library. Jill has also given talks and workshops in New Zealand.
In 1996 Jill’s work opened the ‘Religion, Literature and the Arts’ Conference at the University of Sydney.
In 2012 Jill teamed up with children’s author, Aleesah Darlison to bring to life the picture book, Barely There for Windy Hollow Books.
Bearly There is a story about a well-loved teddy bear. Bearly and his owner Blake are inseparable. Blake’s Aunt Phelicia insists it’s time to replace the worn out bear – enter Winston a rich, velvety bear with satin lined ears.
Jill took the unique step of illustrating Bearly There in black and white. With the use of red to liven up each illustration instantly creating an eye catching picture book.

Elegant Elephant was written and illustrated by Jill for Hodder & Stoughton. Elegant Elephant is a story about a flamboyant elephant that arrives at a tea party and makes herself at home. Suddenly her clothes acquire a life of their own and the children of the house find themselves entertaining an elephant, a tiger, a tortoise, a giraffe, a pair of snakes and a cockatoo.
This book and was a finalist in the Lothian unpublished Children's Book Awards.
Her other titles include: Zoe’s Zoo, The Lonely Gnu and more. Jill has also designed and illustrated for a variety of publishers, magazines and other print media. She was invited to speak at the Royal College of Art in London about her illustrating, photography and filmmaking work.
Her three animated films have received international acclaim and were supported by the Australian Film Commission, the NSW Film Office and Canon Australia.
Not just in Australia and New Zealand but also Italy, Belgium, England and Germany, Jill’s work is loved the world over.
