Dee White
Welcome to Creative Kids Tales Dee White.
Dee White resides in a small country town with her husband and two sons. The Victorian rural community boasts more kangaroos than people.
With a background as an advertising copywriter and journalist, the natural progression to award winning author fit Dee like a comfy old slipper. Her first novel with Walker Books Australia was published to critical acclaim in 2009.
To date, Dee is the author of 16 fiction and non-fiction titles for children and young adults, including the award-winning Letters to Leonardo, Hope for Hanna, A Duel of Words and Harry’s Goldfield Adventure. She is a qualified writing teacher and mentor who is passionate about encouraging new writers.
Dee has run many writing workshops for adults and students in various states of Australia, with sessions focusing on story ideas, plotting and character development.
Her informative blogs writingclassesforkids.com and deescribewriting.wordpress.com are filled with career advice and writing tips for both published and emerging authors.
In 2013 Dee won the highly sought after SCBWI Nevada Mentorship (2013-2014). She also received a CAL grant to attend this program in 2013.
Before being published, Letters to Leonardo won a number of awards including third place in the 2006 CYA Children’s Writing Competition – Young Adult category. In 2007 she again secured third place this time under the Pre School Picture Book category for, No More Nappies.
In 2002 Dee was awarded a mentorship by the Victorian Writers’ Centre for her Young Adult Novel, Letters to Leonardo.
Receiving highly commended in the Nairda Lyne Children’s Writing Competition for The Brilliant Bike Rescue in 2007 and in 2008 for Elephant Trouble.
Other books include; Pippa's Pets - Runaway Pony, Pippa's Pets: Scaredy Cat, Pippa's Pets - Lost Dog, Extreme Ed's Bike Adventures, Extreme Ed's Air Adventures and various other titles under Pearson Australia.
Dee has had many articles published in newspapers and magazines throughout the country such as: Girls vs Boys Books (Viewpoint on Young Adult Literature), Successful Writers & Their Styles (Reading Time), The Use of Fact in Children’s Fiction (Reading Time), Family Tree, Babes in the Outback and Time for a SeaChange all with Practical Parenting Magazine.
