Welcome to Creative Kids Tales Tristan Bancks.
Tristan Bancks has always been a storyteller. As a young boy he aspired to be an actor, then it was an actor/film maker. By the time he hit 30, Tristan was pouring his storytelling energy into books for children and teens.
He was always writing, mainly plays, short stories and films. He began his acting career as a teenager in theatre and moonlighted after school as a TV actor.
After he graduated from school Tristan got the travel bug, which he still suffers from today. He moved to the UK for four years, and during that time he presented, wrote and researched for UK TV.
Tristan’s award winning short films have been screened at festivals and TV across the country. His degree in Arts in English and Communications helped him along his creative journey to where he is today.
The author of books such as; My Life & Other Stuff I Made Up, Mac Slater Coolhunter, Galactic Adventures First Kids in Space, the Nit Boy series and most recently, Two Wolves by Random House which was released in March 2014.
An old man tells his grandson that there is a battle raging inside him, inside all of us. A terrible battle between two wolves. One wolf is bad – pride, jealousy, greed. The other wolf is good – kindness, hope, truth. The child asks, ‘Who will win?' The grandfather answers simply, ‘The one you feed.'
This month Tristan’s sequel to, My Life & Other Stuff I Made Up is released. Look out for My Life & Other Stuff That Went Wrong, it’s packed with weird-funny-gross short stories, the kind that kids love.
I had the privilege of meeting Tristan at the 2013 CYA Conference. We had respectively followed each other on Twitter and Facebook, but it wasn’t until last year I saw this man in action. His presentation blew me away! Tristan connected with this room full of writers who were all at different stages of their writing careers.
One thing I learned about Tristan was his passion for technology. So much so, that during a brainstorming session with friend Ben Train the pair came up with the idea for a tool to assist in writing process. Story Scrapbook was born.
Story Scrapbook is a app developed by Tristan and Ben that allows you to brainstorm story ideas using Google Images, Google Maps, YouTube and text. Best of all it’s free!

From Actor to Director and now Author, we wonder what’s next from this man of many hats.
Oh and if you are having a case of ‘where have I seen this guy before?’ think back to Home and Away in the early 90’s and a character called Tug O’Neale.
This is Tristan’s first month back in Australia after travelling all over the world for the last 6 months with his young family. We are delighted to have him visit Creative Kids Tales.
