Welcome to Creative Kids Tales Belinda Murrell.
With an astounding 5 books being released this year Belinda Murrell is certainly one busy author who is relishing in every rewarding moment.
Belinda was born from the literary elite with her sister Kate Forsyth, also a major influence in the Australian literary world and her brother, Nick Humphrey, an accomplished author in his own right.
Interestingly it doesn't end there in fact, Belinda's family heritage in the literary community dates back 180 years. Her great-great-great-great grandfather James Atkinson published his book on Australia in 1826, while his wife Charlotte published the first Australian children's book, A Mother's Offering to Her Children in 1841.
Although it wasn't until 1980 that the identity of, A Mother's Offering to Her Children was discovered as it was originally published anonymously by 'A Lady Long Resident in New South Wales.'
Belinda's own journey began after finishing university. Over the past 20 years she has sharpened her pencil as a travel journalist, technical writer and editor. Belinda was a TAFE teacher and Public Relations consultant with the latter seeing her successfully run her own award winning Public Relations consultancy for eleven years. As if all these professions aren't enough for three people in one lifetime Belinda has also worked as a grapepicker, stable girl, waitress in a ski resort and a veterinary nurse.
But it wasn't until Belinda had her three beautiful children, Nick, Emily and Lachlan that her passion for children's literature reignited. Using the tools she acquired while studying Children's Literature at Macquarie University, Belinda's ability to create stories for her children felt as comfortable as slipping into a favourite pair of old slippers.
Her life has seen her travel extensively throughout Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa and she often uses these memories in her writing converting them to paper. Always a Sydney girl at heart, Belinda and her family live in an old cottage that overlooks the sea in picturesque Manly.
Belinda's work has been recognised by many in the industry, eg. Shortlisted in the 2013 KOALA and YABBA awards, CBCA Notable Book 2012, Highly Commended Prime Minister's Literary Awards, Premiers Reading Challenge, Shortlisted for the 2012 and 2011 KOALA awards, YABBA awards, COOL awards, WAYBRA awards and Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Award. She is also an Author Ambassador for Room to Read.
Author of The River Charm, The Locket of Dreams, The Ruby Talisman, The Ivory Rose, The Sun Sword Trilogy, The Forgotten Pearl and more recently the Lulu Bell series. Belinda researched The Locket of Dreams and The Ruby Talisman while home schooling her three children while travelling around Australia in a caravan for 18 months. That in itself deserves some kind of honour!
Belinda's books are as colourful as her life.
The Locket of Dreams, The Ruby Talisman and The Ivory Rose are adventures for girls 10+ years.
The Sun Sword Trilogy - a children's fantasy adventure series designed for eight to 11 year olds. The titles in the trilogy include Quest for the Sun Gem, Voyage of the Owl and The Snowy Tower.
