Mem Fox
Wow! What can I say? How truly honoured I was when Mem Fox, the Queen of Australian children’s picture books, agreed to be interviewed for Creative Kids Tales.
I spent many sleepless nights asking myself what do I ask her? So many questions. Where do I start? Once my butterflies calmed down I began to think clearly. But the more I researched Mem, the more nervous I became again. Nonetheless I hope I did her justice.
What greater author than Mem Fox could we have to kick start us for 2012, the National Year of Reading.
Mem’s literary resume is vast. She has countless books published and has received many, many, awards. She is an Australian household name with books such as Possum Magic, Koala Lou, Hello Baby! and Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes, just to name a few.
Prince William read the best selling picture book in Australian history, Mem’s Possum Magic to the children at a Redfern school.
Oprah has Time for Bed by Mem Fox on her twenty best children’s books of all time list.
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes was on the New York Times bestseller list for 18 weeks in 2008/2009.
Mem was an Associate Professor in Literary Studies at Flinders University before retiring early from her day job in 1996. She was a teacher for 24 years.
After researching Mem and reading her achievements and awards, I couldn’t help be in awe.
