The incredibly inspiring, multi-genre writer, teacher and speaker, Allison Tait, has had a career in magazines, newspapers and online publishing for more than 25 years. She has had articles feature in Vogue Australia, Cosmopolitan, Australian Women’s Health, Elle, House & Garden and Essential (Sydney Morning Herald), amongst many other publications.
Allison is the author of the bestselling children’s adventure series, The Mapmaker Chronicles. The series has successfully reached audiences around the world including in the United States, Lithuania, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The Mapmaker Chronicles #1 Race To The End Of The World, was a Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Of The Year (Younger Readers) Notable book in 2015 and was shortlisted for the Readings Children’s Book Prize 2015. Book #2 Prisoner Of The Black Hawk, was shortlisted for the 2015 Aurealis Awards. Her new series, The Ateban Cipher, has also received outstanding reviews and has generated a strong following.
Growing up as a voracious reader who read at home, in the library and even the back of cereal boxes, Allison was always encouraged to write stories by her teachers and her parents. She started working in magazines as the secretary on Electronics Australia, when she was 18 years old, moving into a cadetship when she was 19. She began writing fiction ten years later whilst working as a publications coordinator for a government organisation. Allison never thought that she would be writing books for Children, her background was far from it, penning women’s fiction. Her two inquisitive boys propelled her on her Children’s book writing journey, igniting the idea for Mapmaker Chronicles with two reflective questions “how far does space go?” and “how did they map the world?” Having her oldest son in the back of her mind, Allison was able to craft a compelling and deeply exciting story that connected with her target audience. Her exceptional ability to fill the pages of her books with action, humour and memorable characters, has enabled her to gather a dedicated audience, who continue to eagerly wait for her next instalment.
Juggling numerous projects at one time, along with being a mum to two boys and a cheeky dog, makes Allison all the more admirable. Allison is often dreaming up stories whilst managing the realities of day-to-day tasks, such as weeding the garden, taking her boys to their various activities and walking the dog.
Allison is always willing to share her astute industry knowledge with other authors. She continuously gives back to the writing community, through her appearances at events such as the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Somerset Celebration of Children’s Literature, Emerging Writers’ Festival (NSW Writers’ Centre), and Romance Writers’ of Australia Conference. Her podcast So You Want To Be A Writer, which is co-hosted with Valerie Khoo of the Australian Writers’ Centre, has been rated by iTunes as the #1 Literature/Writing podcast in Australia. Allison offers a breadth of writing courses including, the popular Build Your Author Platform (offered through the Australian Writers’ Centre program), Make Time To Write and Creative Writing 30-day Boot Camp. Her generosity does not go unnoticed by her peers, who regard her so highly for her honesty, professionalism and kindness.
We are delighted to welcome Allison Tait to the Creative Kids Tales community.
