Rose Siva, born in New Zealand, has lived in Australia since the late 1990’s. She currently lives on beautiful Tamborine Mountain in the south eastern corner of Queensland, Australia.
Rose ran a successful education business for 15 years, providing courses for middle and senior school students across Australia, with a focus on developing reading and learning skills. Her second passion, dinosaurs, began after a chance attendance at a lecture on Australian dinosaurs at the Queensland Museum. There she met David Elliot, founder of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, eventually qualifying as an honorary technician with AAOD in Winton.
Her insight gained from years spent working with young people in the education field, coupled with her dinosaur experience, provided her with an opportunity to combine her two interests – dinosaurs and writing kids’ fiction.
“There is something special about working with 100 million year-old dinosaur bones - firstly, the absolute privilege of being the first person EVER to expose the bones of a dinosaur that roamed the plains of central Queensland, and secondly, the effect of 100 million year-old dinosaur dust on my brain…”
Rose’s first three books were self-published picture books based on the bones of several dinosaurs she has worked on. The bones had particular characteristics that suggested ‘character traits’ that she developed into story lines bringing the dinosaurs to life. Matilda faces her WORST FEAR, Banjo bounces into BOTHER and Clancy gets STUCK were designed to be read to young children to inspire a love of books. They were donated to and are available from the Australian Age of Dinosaurs (AAOD) in Winton.
Boolarong Press in Brisbane published Rose’s first kids’ fiction book, Dinosaurs Fight to Survive, which was launched at the Winton Outback Writers Festival in 2017. The story is based around a real dinosaur dig in Outback Queensland where there is speculation on how two different species of dinosaur died in the same waterhole. Rose thinks she knows what happened…
Her second book, Dinosaurs and Dragons, also published by Boolarong Press, follows the adventures of a grandfather who takes three of his grandchildren on an outback road trip to settle an argument about dinosaurs. The children not only visit a number of dinosaur related towns in Outback Queensland, they make an amazing discovery…
Her third book, with the working title The Coldest Dinosaur, has her young hero involved in an epic adventure to extract dinosaur bones from Antarctica. Scheduled to be published later in 2018, you will have to wait to see if the expedition was successful…
