Victor’s Dragon (Extract)
By Debra Tidball
Victor was invisible.
When he held up a hopeful hand, no one noticed.
When he gave an eager wave, no one noticed.
When he sat up the straightest, desperate to be picked, no one noticed.
And sometimes in the playground people ran right over him.
It was as if he wore a cursed cloak of invisibility. It was suffocating, but at least no one noticed his tears.
However hard he tried,
Images of Victor trying but coming up short eg. coming last in races, sinking in the pool, missing the ball in games, unable to throw a ball far.
he never got it right. He felt good-for-nothing.
One day during craft Victor rummaged around a messy mound and came out beaming.
As he began to create, the cloak of invisibility started to vanish.
