Zoya is a medical scientist with a passion for writing children’s stories.
She has won an ASA Mentorship with the lovely Nette Hilton, two Nairda Lyne Awards, Stringybark Flash Fiction Award, Gold Coast Writers’, Spooky But True – Warrambucca Books, KBR Unpublished Picture Book Award, a Kathleen Julia Bates Memorial Award and shortlisted for the Charlotte Duncan Award. In 2014, she won the CBCA’s Charlotte Waring Barton Award with Random House and was mentored for a middle-grade novel by JC Burke as part of the prize.
She’s had many short stories and poems published in anthologies such as Jelli-Beanz’s Packed Lunch, Celepene Press’s Short and Twisted, Stringybark’s Between Heaven and Hell, Charms Anthology, as well as in The School Magazine and (the now retired) Alphabet Soup Magazine where the story ‘Clever Mr Sato’ first appeared. She has also participated in the Write-A-Book-in-a-Day competition for The Kids Cancer Project for Westmead Hospital and, along with her collaborators, won Best Book nationally every year since 2013, before self-publishing three of the winning titles.
Thrilled by this achievement, she collaborated again on a middle-grade fantasy called ‘Into Tordon’ which will be published by Midnight Sun in November 2016.
