Yes, I am another one. It seems that in all of my research, blog searching and courses undertaken to learn about and improve my writing, I have come across so many of us. Strangely enough this is encouraging and daunting at the same time. Hello, my name is Artelle Lenthall and I am a wife, mother and Primary School teacher. Like so many before me, I am also (mixed feelings of discomfort and pride here) an emerging author.
I think it is these twin roles (mother and teacher) which have revived my own love of the magic of words on a page and the amazing places they can take us. That is why, after all these years of reading and sharing the masters with the many children in my life, I too would like to write stories that will accomplish two things. One; stories that children will love to hear, read and lose themselves in and two; that the adults in their lives will love to share with them. A big ask I know! I am thankful to belong to the wonderful Eastwood/Hills FAW and now the amazing Creative Kids Tales as well, to help me achieve these goals.
I was fortunate to attend the Writers Unleashed Festival last year and that served to reignite my passion for writing for children. I have read, 'attended' webinars, made new contacts, found informative new (to me anyway) blogs and websites. So much has changed since my last serious attempt at writing ten years ago and when I look back, that attempt was not even really serious. I knew so little. Information on the craft of writing and the writing industry is so much more readily available now and for this I am extremely grateful.
As for my day to day life in Western Sydney, when I am not casual teaching, looking after my family or writing, I am volunteering within my local parish church and school. I love both the opportunity to share my faith and the sense of community and belonging that this provides for our family.
