Megan Higginson writes her stories for children, and blogs in a small house in Gippsland, Victoria. The world inspires Megan; interesting people, animals, dreams, history, and science. She loves pinning her thoughts and observations in her notebook which is never far away from her person. Her favourite questions are, ‘Why?’ and ‘What if?’
Megan has been an avid reader of books from many genres from the time she learnt to read at age seven. Most of all she loves sci-fi and fantasy. As a child and teenager, if she had been able to combine reading from horseback while galloping along Mackay’s North Queensland beaches, or while mustering cattle in the Queensland outback she would have. (Though she would not have enjoyed the thrill of adventure if she’d had her head in a book).
In 2013, she wrote a series of stories for children she had met in a Filipino orphanage. This experience unleashed the writer within her, and she has been writing seriously since then. Her short story, The Sock Thief was included in the Creative Kids Tales Story Collection Vol.1. Her short true story, An Angel to Watch Over Them, was included in the anthology, Three Dummies and a Dinghy and Other Stories of Life. This story was short listed in her section.
Her picture book, Raymund and the Fear Monster is due out in 2019. The story was originally written for the children she met in the Filipino orphanage when she asked herself the question, ‘What if fear was a monster?’
Though she will forever love the North Queensland sun, she currently lives with her adult daughter and two crazy fluffy black cats in Gippsland, Victoria. If Megan is not writing, you will find her watching sci-fi with her daughter, hanging out with friends, pottering around in her garden, learning something new, or with her head in a book.
