Megan Higginson writes her stories for children, and her blogs in a small house surrounded by open cut coal mines and power stations in Gippsland, Victoria. The world inspires Megan; interesting people, animals, history, and science. She loves pinning her thoughts and observations in her notebook which is never far away from her person.
Megan has been an avid reader of books from many genres from the time she learnt to read at age seven. Most of all she loves sci-fi and fantasy. As a child and teenager, if she had been able to combine reading from horseback while galloping along Mackay’s beaches, or while mustering cattle in the Queensland outback she would have. (Though she would not have enjoyed the thrill of adventure if she’d had her head in a book).
Megan has written stories for many years though never thought of herself as a writer, even though she often won local writing competitions. In 2013, she wrote a series of stories for children she had met in a Filipino orphanage. This experience unleashed the writer within her and she has been writing seriously since then.
Megan is a qualified Youth Worker, and Education Support Worker and has worked as a mentor for teenagers.
Her debut picture book, Raymund and the Fear Monster is due out late 2017. It was originally written for children she met in the Filipino orphanage when she asked herself the question, ‘What if fear was a monster?’
Though she will forever love the North Queensland sun, she currently lives with her adult daughter, two crazy fluffy black cats and a gentleman of a dog in Gippsland, Victoria. If Megan is not writing, you will find her watching sci-fi with her daughter, hanging out with friends, pottering around in her garden, learning something new, or with her head in a book.
