I’m June Perkins, a creative writer for children and adults, in Brisbane, Queensland. I have two middles names after my grandmothers, Paisa (from Papua New Guinea) Kathleen (from England.)
I am passionate about poetry, music, stories, environment, and art, which reflect multiculturalism, I equally adore stories, reading, writing, digital storytelling, video, song writing and photography. I’ve done some photo and text exhibitions and plan to create more.
This year several of my poems for children are being published in Sally Odger’s bumper Anthology, Prints Rhyming, Singing the Year. I am working on self- publishing a book of poems in 2016, and have found a fabulous illustrator to collaborate with; more news on this soon.
Previously I have published an anthology Under One Sky, and a photography non-fiction book After Yasi. I’ve also had articles, interviews and short memoir pieces in a wide range of publications.
When I’m not writing I work as writing mentor and tutor, in the ITAS scheme and other programs at universities and in community. I did finish a PhD a while ago now on scholarship at the University of Sydney, and it was all about the power of writing. I guest blogged for ABC Open in the Aftermath project, and worked as editor on their 500 words project when it first began.
Now I want to concentrate on a number of genres for younger readers and have a range of books in progress. So looking forward to finishing and sharing them!
