TOMBQUEST Book of the Dead by Michael Northrop
Published by Scholastic Australia
For a quick summary of the book, Alex Sennefer is no ordinary boy; doctors have predicted he is to die, sooner than he thinks. His Mum uses the powerful, dangerous Lost Spells, from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. She thinks she’s done it, and nothing bad will happen, but the Death Walkers are rising...
This book kept me on the edge of my seat as I began to read. At the beginning I personally thought it was a bit slow, but as I got into the next few chapters, I couldn’t stop reading. Some parts of it gave you a little bit of history, but most of it is made up.
My favourite character is Ren, Alex’s best friend. She’s smart, short, and full of creative fun ideas. She always has Alex’s back and is not afraid to speak her mind. When the mummies rise, she’s ready to fight, and being short can come in handy.
My favourite chapter in the book is when the Stung Man rises, and there is the fight.” It’s magic Ren, it is.” Alex said as the canopic jars began to shake. The stone lid of the tomb lifted open with a ‘Krank’ and there was the Stung Man. His skin visible in some places, his eyes gleaming around the room, in search of prey.
What kept me reading was the ultimate description of what was going on, and the suspense, of finding his mum. It was, in most good books I read, bang, bang, bang. In some parts of the book it was a bit to crowded for me, yet it would calm down eventually.
In conclusion I would like to recommend this book highly, to anyone. The concept of the story is yet to be discovered, as they have to do all they can to defeat the Death Walkers and find Alex’s mum.
