Juicy Juicy Green Grass and other fun songs by Peter Combe
Published by Scholastic Australia
Dedicated to the 20 and 30 year olds who grew up with his music, is Peter Combe's Juicy Juicy Green Grass and other fun songs. He is Australia's original King of the Kids, and one of Australia's best loved children's songwriters, entertaining young and old since 1976.
Fully equipped with a Bonus CD, this oh-so-much-fun picture book includes bold, bright and animated graphics that perfectly accompany the four funny and educational songs.
Juicy Juicy Green Grass (A Sheep's Lament), as the name suggests is about a poor sheep so full of sorrow and desperately hungry for some fresh green, juicy grass. This one includes good humour, repeating lines and delightful, expressive pictures, and a lesson in learning not to complain or you might miss the obvious.
The Silly Postman is a humorous story that teaches the days of the week and reinforces short term memory skills. Each day the postman dog delivers a letter, and an additional animal as the days progress, eventually getting fired for being a silly boy.
Tadpole Blues, teaching children about the life cycle of a frog, includes rollicking repetition and rhyme to engage little ones all the way through. A nice moral to finish in accepting uniqueness and sense of self.
Red Says Stop, a simple and clear message reinforcing traffic safety and the significance of the colours on a traffic light. A short, sweet way for children to remember and be aware on the road.
The music on the CD is lively and interactive with a mix of Combe's energetic voice and back-up singing from the kids. I listened, bopped and sang along with my four year old many times over. We shared plenty of giggles and topic discussions, thanks to Peter Combe's Juicy Juicy Green Grass and other fun songs.
