A Woolly Wombat Story: At the Beach by Kerry Argent
Published by Scholastic Australia
In the new edition of Kerry Argent's 'At the Beach', as one of the early reader books in the series 'A Woolly Wombat Story', Wombat and Bandicoot return with another fun adventure.
When the sun gets too hot for any more sunbaking, the pair decide to take a dip in the ocean. At first it's too cold, but a fun splash and dive about soon helps them adjust. Prepositional language is cleverly integrated with Bandicoot finding himself on top of the wave and Wombat under it. All is fun until Wombat meets a rather large fish (a shark), and the friends decide that building sandcastles is a good alternative.
At the Beach showcases absolutely gorgeous and very funny, expressive illustrations, with simple and easy to read phrasing that rolls off the tongue. A perfect story for beginning readers about friendship, surprises and adventure at the beach.
