Bailey Beats the Blah written by Karen Tyrrell
& Illustrated by Aaron Pocock
Karen Tyrrell has delivered yet another award winning book this time reaching out to children via Bailey Beats the Blah.
As a former teacher, Karen knows all too well the importance of nurturing a healthy mind especially in children. Bailey is a book for children struggling with anxiety and for those who feel alone.
Bailey’s having a blah day. In fact, everything is blah including his dog, Fuzzy’s affectionate slobbers. ‘Blah! Go away, Fuzzy.’
‘Mum, my tummy hurts.’ The thought of school was too much for Bailey but with some gentle nudging from his mother Bailey reluctantly drags himself off to school.
The kids on the bus were enjoying each other’s company too much to notice Bailey which only made him feel worse. He longed for a friend and was tired of feeling unhappy and alone.
By the time he made it to school he was feeling even more blah. He was sure everyone was whispering about him.
A new boy in class, Tom who appears to be dealing with his own nerves takes his seat beside Bailey.
Bailey’s blah gradually fades away with the pair forming a strong bond. Tom even encourages Bailey with this soccer skills resulting in Bailey scoring a goal.
Before long Bailey and Tom are inseparable. The Blah feeling and tummy aches have been replaced by smiles and an enthusiasm to embrace life. And this time Fuzzy’s slobbers are welcomed with open arms.
Aaron Pocock’s illustrations help compliment this valuable addition to schools across the country.
Best of all Karen has generously committed to donating 5% from the books proceeds to Kids Helpline.
Karen’s book helps kids realise it’s all about that first step. Only by putting one foot in front of the other can we achieve anything in life. Don’t get overwhelmed by the big picture, live in the moment and don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know who is out there just like you.
