The Journey written by Coral Tulloch
Published by Walker Books
The Journey is a fun and interactive adventure into the tunnel under Mr Pip’s house and towards the Pole of Inaccessibility.
Bernard loves plum jam on his crumpets and a shortage at his house leads him to discover his neighbour, Mr Pip, digging a mysterious tunnel in Mr Pip’s basement.
Through the use of a map, a scroll, a code and with the help of such characters as the Cook, and some creatures called Pickle Lights who require pickles for fuel, the reader goes on the journey with Bernard, helping him make choices about which way to go to find the Pole of Inaccessibility.
The story is broken by interesting segues like recipes, games, codes, interesting facts, maps, etc.
This book would only suit some readers – kids who are enthralled by a mystery and a project. It would suit avid readers of Roald Dahl and kids who would enjoy ‘choose your own adventure’ books.
Because it’s a novel and activity book in one, it can only be used in its completeness once. But a great holiday treat for the right child!
