Snail And Turtle Are Friends written by Stephen Michael King
Published by Scholastic Australia
Snail and Turtle are friends. They like to do many things together, but they are also totally different.
Snail likes early mornings after the rain, Turtle likes any day, as long as it is wet. They eat different foods and enjoy different forms of exercise. They even like to be creative together, be it swirls, or blobs of paint, these two are firm friends and are never very far from each other.
This is a simple but lovely story, about a friendship of the ages. Sure, Snail and Turtle, are different, in every kind of way, but they enjoy each other’s company and accept each other just the way they are.
The illustrations are the hero in this snail and turtle tail. So typical of Stephen Michael King’s unique style, full of colour and rich expression of the beautiful nature that surrounds this dynamic duo.
This quiet read aloud, reminded me a little of Pear Barley and Charlie Parsley, by Aaron Blabey, another book that celebrates the differences and takes pure joy in the friendship.
This would make a great bedtime story for children aged 3-6, to help calm and settle, as they journey along with Snail and Turtle and their unlikely but lovely friendship.
