Actually, I Can by Nicky Johnston
From the Author of, Go Away, Mr Worrythoughts! and Happythoughts are Everywhere comes a new book, Actually I Can. Nicky Johnston both authored and illustrated this charming book that tackles the queasy tummy feeling in us all.
Connor, according to Amelia is a worry bunny. Connor’s not sure why he is this way and wishes he could be more like his adventurous, carefree neighbour Amelia.
Amelia looks upon the world around her with imagination and wonder. Connor focuses on the negative and worries about the ‘what if’s’.
During another one of their adventures Connor is tested when Amelia suddenly cries for help. What has happened? Again the ‘what if’s’ creep in. What if Amelia has been bitten by an African Six-Eyed Sand Spider or perhaps she’s succumbed to a colony of cranky stinging wasps or fallen into a sinking quicksand hole?
When Connor imagines Amelia has turned into a mutant snot monster or discovered a pirate’s hidden treasure map excitement quickly washes away his worries. Once Connor begins to relax he realises how wonderful the world around him really is and just how much fun life can be.
Published by Rough Draft, this book was launched and supported by World Vision Australia.
This light-hearted book does not preach to children but instead gently conveys a warmth and strength that anything is possible if only you try.
Reading this book left me with a smile on my face and no worry bunnies in sight. Enjoy!
