Lulu Bell and the Fairy Penguin by Belinda Murrell
We’ve been lucky to receive the first two books in this fun series and have chosen to review, Lulu Bell and the Fairy Penguin.
Lulu and her sister, Rose who loves wearing angel wings and sparkly shoes their brother, Gus who believes he is a superhero and must dress for the occasion, wherever they go live with their parents at their Shelly Beach home. Mind you this is no ordinary home; their house is adjacent to Lulu’s father’s work, a Veterinary Hospital. Their house is always filled with animals and if this wasn’t enough, their tortoiseshell cat Pickles is about to add more to the menagerie.
Pickles is pregnant! In fact she is dangerously close to popping, Lulu states.
Lulu can hardly contain herself with the BIG surprise her teacher, Miss Baxter has revealed. Their class have been invited to paint a giant mural on a new building site. Before a winning design can be chosen the students must first submit their designs. With ideas of fairies and the likes flooding her head, Lulu is not sure what statement she wants to make with her design.
Perhaps an afternoon at the beach will help inspire her, Lulu’s Mum thinks.
Lulu, Rose, Gus and their friends Molly and Sam head off for an after school swim at the beach. An afternoon of sand castle building, climbing and splashing around has left one big hole in their tummies. So a suggestion of fish and chips for dinner is met with lots of excitement.
Just as the sun was setting on their afternoon Lulu and Molly’s Mums gathered everyone together and headed home.
Much to the children’s delight a lone penguin is making her way back up the beach to feed her hungry babies. But a runaway dog has other plans in mind. He wants a new toy and the penguin would be perfect. It’s Lulu to the rescue!
Both Lulu and Molly chase after the four legged scruffy mut. But it’s too late; the dog is now tossing the little bird around like a rag doll. ‘Bad dog!’ Lulu cries.
It’s not long before her father arrives on the scene to assist the injured bird.
What happens next? We don’t want to spoil it for you; you’ll need to read it yourself. One thing is for sure, you won’t be disappointed.
It would seem to be one drama after another with Pickles now missing too!
