The book that Made Me Edited by Judith Ridge
Published by Walker Books
The back of this book describes this book as Á celebration of the books that influenced some of the most acclaimed authors from Australia and the world.’ As I read the list of contributors I became quite excited by the prospect of reading what influenced these authors and their own reading.
Judith Ridge is well known for her support, passion and professionalism of children’s literature. Her foreword to this book outlines her own passion for reading and encourages us all to expand our reading life. The added bonus is that royalties of the book will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
The thing that I most enjoyed about this book wads that even though I had read many of the book mentioned, my to read list was expanding. It gave me a greater insight to the lives of authors and what influences their writing.
An added delight to this book is the drawings dotted throughout the book by Shaun Tan, accompanied by a poignant saying.
Do yourself a favour and buy the book, you can’t lose. You’ll have contributed to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and bought yourself a nice treat.
