Weirdo 7: Mega Weird by Anh Do (CKT Kids review)
Published by Scholastic Australia
Things started off weird, got weirder and now they're mega weird with Anh Do's recently released book, Weirdo 7! Weirdo fans will love this new book more than ever. It seems to me that every time a new Weirdo book is released, it is always even better than the last one, even if the last one was seemingly the best ever. But now...for the action. In Weir's neighbourhood, there's going to be a Mega Street Sale! And this is the
Do family's chance to turn all of the junk overflowing out of their garage into mega bucks!
Some brilliant ideas for the money:
- waterslide coming out of Weir and Sally's bedroom windows
- tree houses connected with bridges
- singing lessons for FiDo and Blockhead ( the Do family's very weird bird and dog )
But nothing can top Weir's parents' idea to get enough money to get Grandma Do, the Weird Queen of the family to come to Australia from Vietnam. Now Weir really needs to get lots of money. He works harder than ever.
As he is sorting out the last corner of the garage, Weir finds a huge bone wrapped in a cloth given by one of his dad's funny old uncles ages ago. It might actually be a dinosaur bone! But later, this is pushed out of Weir's mind by the Garage Sale...
At the end of the day, hardly anyone has bought much from Weir's garage and unfortunately they don't even have nearly enough to get Grandma Do over, and disappointment and gloom fills the house. Maybe, Weir should enter the School Writing Competition with some of his hilarious dinosaur jokes? The prize money would certainly help... But Bella Allen, the seventh-prettiest girl in the class, also wants to enter the competition. Who will win?
Will Weir get enough money to get Grandma Do over? I am most certainly not telling you so you'll have to read the book.
A hilarious classic book for kids all ages, Weirdo 7 is definitely a book for laughing and enjoying. Warning: Don't read this in a silent office space or library; you might get told off for laughing out loud!
I recommend this book for any kid who loves a good sense of humour and enjoys not-too-long books. I rate it 5 out of 5, and I hope the next time you're at the library or bookshop, you keep your eye on Weirdo 7 if you find it!
