Smile Cry by Tania McCartney
Published by EK Books
Once in a while you come across a book that pulls all the heartstrings, and this is one.
Here is a picture book that explores many reasons why children smile and cry, and normalises these emotions, with super sweet illustrations.
The book has two parts, able to be read together or individually, depending on your child’s feelings on the day. One end of the book explores why we smile, the other why we cry. And the two parts of the book meet in the middle with the most delightful of illustrations which meld the two parts together in a heart-warming way.
This book is in no way soft and sappy, but a celebration of our emotions, and an exploration of what can make us smile and cry. This book would make a great addition to every child’s library, and will generate conversations around our feelings and how we can celebrate them, even when we cry.
Congratulations to Tania McCartney and Jess Racklyeft on their contribution to the wonderful body of Australian Children’s Literature that we are blessed to have in this country.
