Time Now to Dream by Timothy Knapman
Published by Walker Books
“Ocka by hay bees unna da reeees” – That’s the strange sound that Alice and her little brother Jack hear while playing catch. Alice decides to investigate and, despite his fears of the “Wicked Wolf”, Jack goes along too. Alice holds her brother’s hand and together they walk towards the odd sounds. Each time the children hear odd sounds, Jack brings up his fear and Alice comforts and encourages her brother.
This adventure story has a lovely twist which is guaranteed to bring a smile to everyone’s face. It is a great book to read to young children and launch into discussions about bravery.
The illustrations are beautiful watercolour paintings that bring so much to reading experience. There is even a double page without words when the children discover what is making the noises. In the end, Jack is the brave one who encourages his big sister. Together, the children go home and “snuggle down deep”.
This is a lovely book that would be a great read with young children before bedtime.
