A Texas Year by Tania McCartney
Published by EK Books
This book is one of a number of books in the popular Kids’ Year series. In this title we meet Luis, Alexis, Christopher, Ethan and Mia who live in Texas. We follow them through each month of the year and the reader learns about the traditions and sites of Texas.
The end papers are bright and colourful, made up of tiny squares depicting the characters in action. The characters are introduced at the start of the book and we learn their age and ethnicity. As the book progresses through each month we learn about important days, school life, activities, the climate and the food Texans eat.
Each double page spread of the book covers a month and the simple headings for each month are decorated to give a clue of the importance of the month or the season it falls in.
The final double page spread of the book gives a wealth of information about the State of Texas for a child. There is a simple map and some information about the geography of the area.
This book is a great part of the Kids’ Year series and a great information picture book that can be shared and read together with your child.
