Home in the Rain by Bob Graham
Published by Walker Books
Francie, her mum and her baby sister had been visiting Grandma’s. When it was time to leave on their long journey home the rain was bucketing down.
On the highway the windscreen wipers could hardly keep up. There were endless lines of buses, oil-tankers, trucks and other cars on the highway.
After a while, her mum pulled off the highway and into a picnic spot where they ate plum jam sandwiches and hard-boiled eggs with a sprinkle of salt and two stale toffees they had found under an old parking ticket in the door.
As the car windows fogged up, Francie wrote on the windows. First she wrote her name, next was mum and then her dad’s name. Poor Francie was not sure what to write on the last window for her little sisters name because she had not yet been born.
Will the rain ever stop? Does Francie find out what her little sisters name will be before she is born? What happens when they pull over at the service station for petrol? Will her dad be back in time for her little sister to be born?
Read this hard cover book, exquisitely illustrated, heart-warming story and find out the answer to all these questions and more.
