Toad Delight by Morris Gleitzman (CKT Kids review)
Published by Penguin Australia
Characters: Goliath, Penny, Abigail, Limpy, Charm, humans, the dog, flies, mom and dad.
Plot: Goliath, the toad, is in love with Penny- the backpack, and is kidnapped as the main ingre-dient, for a cooking show. The book is about how Limpy, Goliath's cousin rescues him from be-ing frog food.
Theme: How Goliath escapes from the cooking show? His rescue is the main focus of the book. Everything after the kidnapping revolves around his escape.
Limpy, the slightly-squashed cane toad, is the hero of the book as he through his bravery and smartness rescues his family members and also manages to go on TV.
Genre: Adventure and humor because it’s got a lot of risky bits and twists that thrill you. Humor because it has really funny situations and dialogues.
My favourite part: When one of the flies refers to itself as a cook. I like this part because it's funny and strange. My favourite character is definitely the dog because it's cool and is always ready to trade.
The Setting of the book: The book is set in a swamp- where toads and frogs live. Then it moves to a TV set where the cooking show takes place.
Cover: The cover with the picture of a toad tells us that it’s a toad’s story, even if someone has not read earlier books in the series can come to know through this cover. The colors orange and yellow look really nice and bright on the cover.
The author gets all your attention by adding twists and turns.
