Where’s Dad Hiding? by Ed Allen
Published by Scholastic Australia
In this playful book, Tortop’s colourful and humorous illustrations play on Allen’s sparse text with delightful irony. The child wombat searches for his dad, concluding he is not to be found, and all the while the reader can see where father wombat hides – often in outrageous positions and places. Tortop’s characterisation of a wonderfully cheeky dad and various animal characters in the visual narrative are hilarious. Young children will find this book riotously funny– all the way to the delightful twist at the end.
The fun is to be had, quite literally from cover to cover, with Dad disguised in a cow outfit on the front cover, and child wombat tipping up the barcode tag in his search on the back. The endpapers show the child wombat is playing a game of hide and seek so children need not worry that he is lost. Nothing is wasted in the design and story-telling opportunities in this book.
Guaranteed for lots of interactive fun – little ones won’t be able to resist calling out when they have found the dad. Perfect for father’s day or any day of the year.
