I Spy Dad! By Janeen Brian
Published by New Frontier Publishing
‘I spy with my little eye
dads all starting with D
But can I find the one who’s mine?
I wonder where he’ll be.’
I Spy Dad! Is a rollicking, rhyming romp through pages of dads with their children as the little girl looks past ‘A rowing dad, a mowing dad, a snip-snap sewing dad,’ and many others, to eventually find her dad sailing out of the clouds to find her. Brian’s rhyme is impeccable and will have pre-school children chanting along with the story on repeat readings, of which there will be many!
Stewart’s vibrant pencil and watercolour illustrations show a variety of colourful, lively dads of different nationalities and interests all suffused with warmth and humour. The illustrations have a sense of freedom, movement and engagement between the dad and their child which is enhanced by being set on a white background. The text curves and flows around the dads and over the page leading the reader onwards in their search.
First published in 2010 and shortlisted for the Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award, this delightful book has been re-published to delight another generation of preschool readers. Perfect for Father’s day.
