On The River by Roland Harvey
Published by Allen & Unwin
With impressive descriptions of the visions winter, spring & of nature’s wondrous surrounds, this story starts at the headwaters of the Murray River.
Roland Harvey captures the reader by taking them on a most memorable and important adventure.
The story takes place on this country's beautiful states borders.
This wonderfully written account of the Murray River & its naturally spacious surrounds from Tom Groggin (where the man from snowy river was written) then downstream to the white waters of the lochs.
Continuing downstream the author takes you on the journey to the naturally peaceful sounds of the Echuca wharf. The town of Echuca is historic and the still standing wharf is one of the many attractions.
The whole Murray River which is the border between states have many wonders. The author was able to take me on a memory rollercoaster. The vivid illustrations, the pictorials enhanced the memory as I was taken back in time remembering the sounds of the flowing rapids, the sights and feelings of the tranquil Billabongs.
The area of Red Cliffs is also a visual delight. The awe inspiring gum trees along the banks of the river, the fragrances you experience with the red earth, the smell of gum trees is not all one would experience when visiting the area of Red Cliffs which is at the river’s mouth.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE: The Murray River really is a must see. The river is the border between states of the Australian country. The descriptions Roland Harvey presented aroused many emotions within me as I visited the Murray. I experienced the same. Now the author has reignited the memories in me, remembering the wonders, the beauty of the same area.
You will find a perfect spot for a picnic just about anywhere you go, my favourite was near lock 11, it was so tranquil & relaxing perfect to reenergise It is also a peaceful spot for a stroll along the walking path, and if you are more energised the tracks along the Murray River are a good area to exercise along. As you are exercising along the banks of the river, the sights of wildlife, the sights of the slow peaceful rolling waters of the river will definitely keep you wanting to go further to see what’s around the bend.
The illustrations, the story the author took me too is a well written and easy to read book. The author kept the story simplistic, highlighting the beauty in this wonderful country.
If a reader was not familiar with the Murray River and its delights I am sure the story will be a long kept memorable one that will be referenced to at a later time.
