Kindness: The Invisible Tree by Kirrily Lowe
Published by Wombat Books
Kindness is a beautiful, rhyming picture book with a soulful message. The first page begins with ‘Someone once told me about a word, a word so lovely it must be heard.’ As the story progresses the word kindness is revealed and the warmth of the story explodes.
The story is set in Uganda. The skies are ablaze with oranges and pinks. We are told to look out for the pineapples throughout the story as they are the kindness fruit of the country. It is a nice added element to look for the pineapples in varying forms. The author and illustrator both sponsor children from Uganda and have used this as the inspiration for the story. The words of the story are illustrated in different fonts and are pasted like excerpts from newspapers and magazines. Cut up newspapers also feature in the illustrations.
This book is one in a series titled ‘The Invisible Tree.’ Other titles include Love, Joy, Goodness and Self Control.
