Clever Trevor’s Stupendous Inventions by Andrew Weldon
Published by Penguin Australia
This story is about a boy named Stuart, but everyone calls him Clever Trevor. They added the Trevor part because it rhymes with Clever and nothing rhymes with Stuart. He is the smartest kid in the class, or possibly the entire world. That’s what Clever Trevor’s friends think. He is always inventing really cool things, like inflatable bathers, the bicky picker upper and the automatic chip feeder. The only person who doesn’t think Trevor is clever is his teacher Mr Shmedric. He’s a grumpy teacher because he really wanted to be a policeman, but he failed the test. Clever Trevor keeps getting on the wrong side of his teacher because he hands in his inventions instead of the written assignments.
Mr Schmedric is always telling Trevor off. Then Trevor discovers that his teacher is actually stealing his inventions to sell them. What’s worse is he is making lots of money from Clever Trevor’s inventions. Trevor decides to get his revenge by inventing the most disgusting thing he can think of – a Stinkometer.
My favourite invention was the Stinkometer because I like stinky things. Although something that smells like 50 dog poos would be pretty horrible. This invention was really funny.
I really enjoyed this book, the comic illustrations were great and it was a bit like the Tree house books by Andy Griffiths. I give Clever Trevor 5 stars and think all kids would love to read this book!
