Set in the 1800s in Castlemaine, Australia, the historical fiction revolves around Verity and her relationships with Papa and friends as they go about their lives. Along the way, the story takes a sinister turn as a mysterious crime is committed. As part of her investigations, Verity uses her special gift to discover the truth, but will the gift help or hinder? Throughout all the tension and uncertainty that the characters face, there is a sense of loyalty, loving support, and determination from Verity and others in finding solutions.
The language in the book is easy to read, but there a many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. There are colourful characters that make the story interesting and involved. There is excitement, intrigue and surprise endings of both joy and sadness from the many story lines.
