Time Catcher: The Variants Book One by Cheree Peters
Published by Ford Street Publishing
This is the first book by Cheree Peters who holds a degree in Creative and Professional Writing. This book is also the first in a trilogy. The book is set in a post-apocalyptic world. Althea’s life is turned upside down when she is kidnapped by the Variants. From this event she begins to wonder what is true in her life and who can she trust. This book is a good beginning to the trilogy.
I enjoyed this book as I felt I could identify with Althea. I liked her determination that was mixed in with her uneasiness with the situation that had been brought before her. I felt I was right beside her at each step. My feelings for the book come from the writer’s style. Cheree has written a book that is descriptive and open allows the reader to feel the characters depth and emotions. Amongst the adventure and sometimes chaos of Althea’s situation there is a tranquil underlying feeling that hope will prevail. Althea needs strength that she knows is there in her somewhere and she must use those around her. But who to trust?
This is a great young adult book for those who enjoy the dystopian/apocalyptic world genre. Its themes and concepts are not complicated which help the reader connect to the characters and the world that they live in. I was pleasantly surprised with this book and will read number two in the trilogy.
