My mum has secret superpowers, she can do amazing things... Superheroes have all kinds of special powers. They are super clever, super brave, super kind and super fun. And so are mums! What amazing superpowers does your SUPERMUM have?
Supermum, written by Leah Russack, and illustrated by talented artist, Anil Tortop, is a children's fiction picture book, except, every page is true! Children and mums alike will be nodding their heads as they read through this delightful picture book.
My mum has secret superpowers. She can do amazing things ... I can see that smile widening on the face of a mum as she reads Supermum to her child, with a knowing sideward glance to gauge the reaction on their child's face, and yes - one of our superpowers is reading moods, emotions and minds.
Leah Russack's words are simple, with a repetitive beginning for each new page, My mum has ... While you think the language is simple, it is in fact perfect for children in the early stages of reading, and will give children a feeling of achievement when they can 'read' the book all by themselves.
Illustrator, Anil Tortop has created wonderful characters throughout the book. With each superpower is a corresponding character that is known for its attribute of that power. For example, My mum has x-ray vision, and the caped super character is an eagle; My mum has super strength, and the caped super character is an ant. This clever combination of words and characters will open dialogue between parent and child, or teacher and students about why the characters where chosen, broadening the educational scope of the book.
Supermum is a wonderful book, reminding mums of their own superpowers, packaged as a gift that they unknowingly opened with their hearts when they first fell in love with their child.
Supermum is a powerful book, opening the eyes of kids to their own mum's superpowers, and telling them of superpowers they didn't know their mum had.
Supermum will certainly make kids think twice before they make some decisions - "My mum can read my mind. She even knows when I am telling Porky Pies."
