Our Home is Dirt By Sea (selected by Dianne Bates) (CKT Kids review)
Published by Walker Books
How do you think you would like the national anthem to go "Australians all eat ostriches"? Would you want a gorilla to trap someone in a gully, just because she didn't invite you to her birthday party? This book, Our Home is Dirt By Sea, is a hilarious and wonderful book for children and adults alike. The poems were selected by Dianne Bates and they are wonderfully placed together. I could never have imagined how beautiful the art of poetry could be!
Some of the poems made me laugh out loud, some of them made me really think about the way things might look like on the inside, and others were just wonderfully enriching.
The poems gave a twist ending and surprised me, most of the time in a funny way. For example, I loved the poem Fishermen, which describes how Fishermen talk. "Hiyamayt." "Lobuddy." "Binearlong?" "Cuplours". It was just a simple, casual conversation, but it was so interesting!
I loved all of the poems in this book, and I give it a whopping five out of five, because I cannot find a flaw in any way whatsoever. Anyone would find this book interesting, and whether you're nine or ninety, I guarantee that you will enjoy it.
