Alphonse, that is not ok to do! By Daisy Hirst
Published by Walker Books Australia
Natalie is a red creature and Alphonse is a blue creature. Natalie likes having Alphonse around, but when she catches him eating her favourite book, that is not ok! This simple and cute picture book is about relationships and how we can annoy each other and then try to make amends.
The text is simple and the illustrations are also, but a clear message is delivered, forgiveness and being sorry go hand in hand.
The illustrations are simple almost childlike and are drawn in bold primary colours. The reader can presume that Alphonse may very well be the bothersome younger brother. Many children will be able to relate to this story.
Sometimes our sibling can be a pain and at others times we just want to get along and play together. I love the cheeky look on Alphonse and the way his teeth hang out.
On the cover the two characters set the tone for the story. Natalie looking down at Alphonse almost bewildered and Alphonse looking up with a ‘I didn’t mean to do that look!’
