The Creatures of Dryden Gully by Aunty Ruth Hegarty
Published by Scholastic Australia
Meetings are boring and I have more important things to do, thought Joey, until he heard about the special visitors who had come to Dryden Gully. The Royals were definitely impressive and Joey, who was still learning to hop properly, was both inspired by and envious of the young Royal's stately stance and speed.
They seemed friendly enough, maybe they would help him to be like them and be able to go wherever he wanted to go. Joey followed them into the hills but there was danger nearby. Suddenly Joey was alone and very scared. What should he do?
The Creatures of Dryden Gully is a truly Australian tale of love and self-acceptance. Sandi Harrold's bright yet earthy illustrations complement this wise and gently told story. I would recommend this Picture Book for 6-8 year old children.
