WeirDo 5 – Totally Weird by Anh Do
Published by Scholastic Australia
When a new kid comes in the class (Hans Some) Weir gets jealous, because, just like his name Hans is handsome.
When he gets home he tries to play cool in front of his family. His mum said his dad used to attract lots of people on the street, so he should ask dad for some ' cool ' clothes, Weir does, but he ends up looking like a hippie. On the next day of school they choose camp leaders Weir volunteers, so does Wendy, Hans and Bella, hoping to get picked with Bella, he gets picked to be with Wendy. They would be the leaders of Team Red. On camp day, they start the camp Kangaroo Competition.
On the first activity, Tent Building, Weir tries to do it by himself, doing so his team loses- by 1 second! On the next activity, the obstacle course, Weir realises that he needs to do the activities with his team as well, not by himself, so team red do it together! Since they did it together, they win! The next day they do canoeing they paddle together, they win!
On the last day, they sing a song. They sing 'Be yourself ' they do a wonderful job! The Blue team sings ' Totally Cool'.
Weir prepares himself for Hans amazing voice, but to his surprise it's terrible! He was too busy screeching away to notice his team. This was my favourite bit.
In the end, the red team wins! When they go home, Bella says she likes him.
I thought this book was great and give it a 10.5/10.
The moral of this is Be yourself, and no one else.
