The Warlock’s Child - Dragonfall Mountain by Paul Collins and Sean McMullen
Published by Ford Street Publishing
In the second installment, we pick up the story when Dantar is fighting to stay alive and afloat in the aftermath of a sea battle where his Dravinian ship, The Invincible, sank. Dantar is rescued by Marko, Meanwhile, Velza makes her own way ashore, managing to stay alive, when she witnesses a very strange occurrence: a dragon involved in the battle. It seems like the Savarian’s were triumphant, and Dantar and Velza must do everything in their power, just to survive, but another foe is in their midst. Their own father will stop at nothing to ensure that Dantar is captured, conjuring forbidden magic to do so, but he isn’t the only problem. The Dragons are angry at losing one of their own, and they don’t take kindly to the use of forbidden magic.
This is a fast paced tale that weaves together many characters I imagine are from the first book. As I have not read the first installment, it took me a little while to understand who was who, but it didn’t take me long to get taken in by Dantar and Velza’s struggles. I believe I would look forward to finding out how the rest of the books proceed.
I recommend for readers aged 9-12 due to some of the themes, but this is a quick read and will be sure to capture the attention of any fantasy/ dragon loving bookworms.
