The Ravenous Gown and 14 more Tales about Real Beauty by Steffani Raff

Young readers who pick up a copy of "The Ravenous Gown and 14 more Tales About Real Beuaty" are in for a treat, well 15 of them, to be exact with this compilation of short stories.
In the modern world young readers are often bombarded of images of what beauty should look like - this book is a universal response to that. The 15 stories are inextricably linked in a common message of beauty being more than what a person looks like on the outside. Written with humour and flair, the short stories are a delightful combination.
From princesses and dragons to healing stones, the Ravenous Gown and 14 more Tales about Real Beauty is written in fairy tale prose yet manages to bring an era of princesses into the 21st century by using a modern twist.
One of my favourite short stories from this book was "A real princess" and saw a young princess faced with an unenviable challenge - get eaten by a dragon or reveal her deepest darkest secret to escape the dragons clutches. Like a strong-young woman, the princess chose the latter and simply took of her shoes revealing the biggest and stinkiest feet, allowing her to escape. The princess was ultimately worried that no one would accept her smelly feet and all, however, the princess's mother - the queen revealed her own stinky secret. The Queen's feet had such a pong, and yet she still feel in love regardless.
Readers are asked to "Fall under the spell of a "Once upon time..." where beauty is bigger than a reflection, where wisdom makes girls extraordinary, and where curses are broken through the strength and character of unlikely heroines"; and that is just what I have done. This is the ultimate Girl Power book, and a perfect addition to any young ladies reading collection.
