Readers who open the cover of Mango and Bambang The Not-a-Pig are sure to be charmed by this collection of four short stories, complete with delightful illustrations which only help to capture the readers attention.
In the first tale, readers are introduced to Mango; a young girl with a certain charm. Mango lives in a busy city, one day she comes across something a little out of the ordinary in the hustle and bustle of a city- a Tapir visiting from a Malaysian jungle. In Mango and the muddle, Mango befriends the Tapir, also known as Bambang, who is violently afraid of Tigers. Bambang must overcome his fears and trust Mango to keep him safe.
While Bambang loves his dear friend Mango, he can't help but miss his home in the jungle. A trip to the city pool for this water loving Tapir did not go so well, with a lifeguard scaring Bambang away. Bambang's Pool, see's the duo meet a new friend in the park.
While Tiger's are scary, Bambang finds something even scarier in Bambang Puts on a Hat when he encounters Dr Cynthia Prickle-Posset - a neighbour with a net keen to catch him for her collection of animals. Will Mango rescue him in time? The final mini story - The Song of the Tapir - see's Bambang help Mango overcome one of her own fears, a true circle of friendship.
The four stories, although separate, when weaved together showcase deeper messages of trust, inner strength, friendship and bravery. A thoroughly impressive book for any little boy or girl.
