Reindeer’s Christmas Surprise by Ursula Dubosarksy
Published by Allen and Unwin
On the cover of this Christmas story is a cute reindeer dressed in a red and white striped jumper holding a wrapped present ready to put under the Christmas tree. He appears to be friendly and endears himself to you on every page.
The story starts with this cute reindeer sitting comfortably in his armchair, feet resting on a pile of books looking at his well decorated tree wishing he could see his family who live on the other side ‘ of a snowy world’. He realises that it’s time to deliver the presents to his friends and ‘off he toddled round the bend’ to see Cat, Dog and Guinea Pig.
With the repetitive phrase of ‘What’s inside- what can it be? Open it and you will see!’, this book invites children to interact and guess what reindeer gives his friends. The red text adds to the Xmas theme and is presented with a good sized font.
The Illustrations by award winning Sue deGennaro are delightful with bright, vibrant, animated characters who help tell the story in a fun and expressive way.
With themes of friendship, families, generosity and caring for others, Reindeer’s Christmas Surprise will soon become a favourite to read at Christmas.
It’s easy to read for accomplished readers and for parents to read again and again to toddlers and all ages alike.
